ORGANIZATION: CIVIC WORKS

Afghans who worked with US forces and NGOs in good faith are now in hiding from the Taliban and in danger of their lives. The Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) process that is supposed to allow them to come to safety is bureaucratic, time-consuming, and broken, with a waiting period of over a year without any tracking number or feedback - it is impossible to tell if an application is waiting its turn or just lost in the system, and there is no information about when they are likely to hear back about their visa application.

This is really unfair to our allies and to fix this, we are looking for volunteers in your city. We need volunteers to make just a tiny effort - to be willing to add your name to a list of people who would like to speak to your representative and spend 30-45 minutes on a Zoom call with your Senator's/Representative's Office. This small yet significant effort of 30-45 minutes by a few US citizens could save many lives and it also is important for allies who feel abandoned, to see that many will stand up in their support. Several of the SIV applicants from Afghanistan - who are still hiding from the Taliban - will also join us on the call and you will also get a chance to interact with them.

Separate training will also be provided to lead and speak in these meetings. Personal stories are much important and encouraged. You, as a volunteer/constituent, will be able to speak truth to power by interacting with the Office of your Senator and Representative.
Thank you so much for your response.
