POSITION SUMMARY

The Guadalupe River Park Conservancy, in collaboration with San Jose Walls, is creating the Guadalupe River Art Walk; the longest public art corridor in the Bay Area! Three murals are already installed, and nine more are coming later this spring. The Conservancy is responsible for maintaining these murals, including cleaning graffiti... that's where you come in! The Tag Team will be the graffiti mitigating specialists on the GRPC and you will remove graffiti whenever you see it during your rounds when on "patrol". Not only on the murals though.. Other park features such as the Children at Play sculptures and other art, signage, benches... they all need some additional love.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Inspect the Guadalupe Park and Gardens, especially in the area of Guadalupe River Art Walk from Grant Street to Coleman Avenue, to check on the status of the murals, sculptures, other art, signage, benches, etc.
  • Clean any graffiti found on murals, sculptures, other art, signage, benches, etc.
  • Report any significant vandalism that you cannot mitigate yourself to Conservancy staff for mitigation
  • When possible, please take photos of graffiti before and after cleaning for significant (large or concerning) removals and send to Conservancy staff
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to volunteer on a consistent basis
  • Minimum age 10 years old; parent/guardian supervision if age 15 or under
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Passion for public art and maintenance of our public spaces
  • Knowledge of the Guadalupe River Park and surrounding areas
  • Ability to occasionally assist in urgent clean ups, if large scale graffiti happens on murals
COMMITMENT
  • 45 minutes weekly, minimum
  • Flexible schedule, all art patrol walks can happen on your own time!
  • Weekly patrols can last longer than 45 minutes if you are interested in spending more time in the park

The Guadalupe River Park Conservancy provides community leadership for the development and active use of the Guadalupe River Park & Gardens through education, advocacy and stewardship. Past efforts by the Conservancy contributed to collaboration among government agencies and community interest groups seeking to solve problems related to the Guadalupe River flood control project. The Conservancy is continually involved in completing the master plans for both the park and gardens, creating educational programs, promoting awareness of the Park & Gardens, and developing membership and volunteer opportunities to increase public support and involvement.
