About Us: Lifelong removes barriers to health with relentless compassion so that no one faces illness and injustice alone. Chicken Soup Brigade (CSB), the food program of Lifelong, provides medically tailored meals, bags of culturally specific groceries, and nutritional counseling and education to improve the health of individuals living with serious illnesses such as cancer, kidney disease, HIV, and other diet-related chronic health conditions. CSB's medically tailored meals are made on-site, from scratch, using whole food ingredients. Our grocery bags are nutritious and culturally relevant, containing enough items from each food group to create 7 meals. Our services are 100% free of charge to those that qualify. This role is 40 hours a week, M-F, and includes job training, a monthly stipend, free health insurance, an education award, and on-the-job industry experience. The term is from September 1st, 2022 through May 15th, 2023.

Member Duties:
The WSC member will support our mission by preparing outgoing deliveries by organizing, staging, and labeling groceries and frozen meals according to assigned routes. Note: This involves heavy lifting and can be physically demanding. Assess bag contents while ensuring a variety of items in the client's bags. Support and encourage proper food handling and safety practices for all meals and groceries received by CSB clients. Completing culturally specific grocery bags with appropriate produce and other fresh options. The member will also coordinate with Client Services, Nutrition, Warehouse, and Kitchen teams to ensure daily flow of activities and prepare and accommodate for any adjustments to client food orders that may occur on a daily basis, such as creating extra produce bags on an as-needed basis. Provide close attention to detail when customizing grocery and meal orders due to various dietary needs of CSB clients.

Mission Statement

We remove barriers to health with relentless compassion so that no one faces illness and injustice alone.

Description

LIFELONG HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN ORGANIZATION THAT STANDS UP FOR COMMUNITIES FACING ILLNESS AND INJUSTICE.

Everyone deserves the chance to live their healthiest life, but that vision is out of reach for far too many people. For nearly 40 years, Lifelong has fought for marginalized communities with relentless compassion-because no one should have to battle stigma, judgment, or the devastating effects of illness alone. Our wraparound care model supports the whole person by breaking down barriers and improving access to nutritious food, stable housing, and vital health resources for people living with diabetes, HIV, kidney disease, and other life-challenging illnesses. Our community support network fills the gaps in broken systems and ensures that everyone has an equitable opportunity to thrive.
