ORGANIZATION: STEM FLIGHTS
Please visit the new page to apply.
Do you love aviation and want to share your passion with the next generation of aviation leaders? The first question a potential volunteer Pilot Mentor wants to know is "What am I signing up for?" After application & approval, we ask you to do 4 STEM Flights a year. Start to finish, a STEM Flight takes about 2 ½ hours per student- including an introductory phone call, pre-flight brief, the flight experience and a de-brief. Roughly 10 hours a year if you can do 4 flights. Our STEM Flight Pilot Mentors (PMs) are the key to successfully motivating students to pursue STEM and Aviation careers. The enthusiasm and professionalism of our Pilots helps to shape the students’ interests in taking next steps towards a STEM career.
The minimum requirements to become a Pilot Mentor are:
Valid airman’s certificate
Flight log showing 300 flight hours total time (minimum)
Current medical certificate
Qualified and current to carry passengers in the aircraft you plan to use (log)
Proof of current biennial flight review
Proof of Aircraft Passenger Liability Insurance ($1M combined liability minimum) for the aircraft used (owned, rented, or borrowed)
More opportunities with STEM FLIGHTS
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.

Mission Statement
STEM Flights is a national nonprofit organization that connects Middle and High School students with volunteer Pilot Mentors to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). We inspire America's youth to pursue STEM and aviation careers with a unique flight experience.
Description
Our motivation is to help regain the technological edge and increase the numbers of STEM and aviation related careers. STEM Flights missions are no-cost to students, we encourage applications from underserved and underrepresented populations.
STEM Flights uses an aircraft to introduce STEM education and career paths to youth. Qualified volunteer Pilot Mentors are paired with a student in their community through our website application. Once approved, Students select a "STEM Mission" and are required to complete that study program online prior to the flight experience. Pilot Mentors coordinate the flight details and serve as the STEM instructor. Students complete tasks related to their selected STEM mission during their flight.
After the flight, the student is automatically enrolled in our STEM Flight Following program that provides scholarship databases, STEM Education resources, Aviation career exploration, mentoring opportunities and much more. We continue to assist students down the path towards their careers of choice. We change kids' lives - one flight at a time.
