A-B Tech Community College

This position reports to the Coordinator of Student Technology Support in the Technology Support Group (TSG), providing an open, efficient, and professional lab environment for students enrolled at A-B Tech. The primary focus of this position is the provision of quality tutoring and assistance to A-B Tech students. Volunteer Lab Aides enforce IT and A-B Tech policies, procedures, and guidelines while providing professional, helpful, and congenial assistance to lab users.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Serve as first point of contact for in-person student IT related questions.
  • Provide professional tutorial services in open labs by helping with Moodle, Web Advisor/Self-Service, and Student Email account log-in issues.
  • Assist with enforcing A-B Tech and Classroom/Computer Lab regulations, including the prevention of unauthorized persons from using lab facilities and equipment.
  • Create new IT handouts that would be helpful to students
  • Take note of needed updates in lab.

Requirements:

  • An application, background check and orientation/ brief training are required before starting this position.
  • Must be able to commute to A-B Tech in Asheville NC. This position is in-person.
  • Must have a social security number, be over the age of 18 and this position is not eligible for community service.
Skills Required:
  • Good Customer Service Skills with excellent oral and written communication
  • Willingness to continue learning to keep up with latest innovations and/or
  • Familiarity with Windows and Microsoft

  • Comfortable and appropriate attire is required.
  • Room temperatures are variable - please dress accordingly.
