Help support the return of this meaningful opportunity back to our community with these in-person engagement events. Volunteers will fill the role of service providers during the simulation and are critical to hosting this opportunity for our community and partners. Poverty Simulations will take place throughout the year with events already scheduled from June 2022 to February 2023.
OVERVIEW:
A Poverty Simulation is a unique and powerful experience which challenges perceptions, changes perspectives and strengthens understanding. The simulation is a role-playing experience which replicates a month in the life of a family living in poverty, where the ultimate mission of each family is to provide food, shelter and other basic needs with a limited income.
VOLUNTEERS:
Trained volunteers populate the simulation as business owners, teachers, police officers, social agency workers, service providers, and government employees while participants experience a full range of encounters, obstacles, and challenges.
There will also be opportunities to support the United Way team in the office in preparation for our larger poverty simulations as we set up all materials and packages. Volunteers support day-of event set up and wrap.
