QUICK OVERVIEW
Project 614's Summer Reading Intervention Program (SRIP) is a 5-week, in-person, classroom-style workshop designed for students entering grades Kindergarten - 4th and at-risk of underachievement in reading, writing, and phonics.
IMPACT
This program is designed for under-resourced students, grades K - 4, who desire extra support in reading, writing, and phonics.
VOLUNTEER ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teacher's Aides
Aide your instructor in supervising a group of children, promoting a positive environment that fosters fun, safety, and Project 614 values.
Uphold, model, and enforce summer program policies.
Maintain safety and cleanliness standards.
Follow Project 614's policies and procedures, including those related to medical, emergency, and disciplinary situations.
Maintain positive relations with parents and other staff.
Morning Crew
Set-up signs/banners
Set-up cafeteria area
Organize meals, drinks, and snacks in the cafeteria and staff/volunteer lounge areas
Distribute meals to students
Tidy up cafeteria area after students are finished eating
Assist with student Check-in
Afternoon Crew
Lunch:
Set-up cafeteria area
Receive inventory from Food Vendor(s)
Organize meals, drinks, and snacks in the cafeteria and staff/volunteer lounge areas
Distribute meals to students
Tidy up the Lunch area after students are finished eating
Recess Crew
Facilitate Recess activities in the gym and outdoor area(s)
Monitor students and promote a positive environment that fosters fun, safety, and Project 614 values.

REQUIREMENTS
Teacher's Aides
Must be at least 16 years of age
Advanced language proficiency or native English speaker
Prior experience working with children
Current CPR and First Aid Certification is a plus!
Fluent Spanish is a plus!
Morning Crew
Must be at least 13 years of age
The ability to speak Spanish is a plus!
Recess & Afternoon Crew
Must be at least 13 years of age
High-energy and upbeat attitude
Loves working with children
Creative and gifted at coming up with fun/safe games and activities
The ability to speak Spanish is a plus!

Length: 5-weeks, Half days Mon - Fri
Age range: Entering K - 4th grade

Program Details
Customized, intensive curriculum
Designed by seasoned, credentialed classroom teachers, our curriculum reinforces the basic foundations of literacy: Letter Knowledge, Phonological Awareness, Phoneme Awareness, Alphabetic Principle, Vocabulary, and Decoding skills. These foundations are embedded within fun and engaging activities that encourage students to grow in their reading, writing, and social-emotional skills.
Qualified Staff
Classrooms are led by credentialed teachers who demonstrate prior experience in working with historically underserved youths.
Small class sizes
The impact is maximized by ensuring that every student has the opportunity to receive one-on-one coaching.
Nutrition
A well-balanced breakfast and lunch are available to all students for the entirety of the program.
Enrichment Tracks
Students can enroll in a "track" where they can learn weekly skills such as coding or performing arts lessons.
Tutor Matching
After completing the program, families will have the option to enroll in online tutoring to ensure continued success and growth for their children.
