In this role, you will accompany newly resettled refugees as they adjust to life in the U.S. and journey towards self-sufficiency. You will be a liaison between the refugee(s) and Catholic Charities support staff throughout the resettlement process. Many of our clients do not speak English. We will connect you with resources needed for this opportunity.
Refugee and Immigrant Services is a program of Catholic Charities Indianapolis, an affiliate of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and a member of CLINIC (Catholic Legal Immigration Network, INC). Staff and volunteers are called to uphold the dignity of all people. Guided by Catholic social teaching, we consider it a privilege to deliver compassionate and caring service to help and empower those in need. Since 1975, RIS has resettled over 20,000 refugees in the Indianapolis area.

Catholic Charities Indianapolis was founded in 1919 to serve the poor and hurting of the Indianapolis community. Our programs provide quality services in counseling, child, youth and family support, eldercare, emergency and specialized services, and pregnancy and adoption services.
In 2019-20, Catholic Charities Indianapolis programs served over 69,000people. Among those served, the majority are women and children, who live below the federal poverty level. Through the generosity of our donors and volunteers we can provide quality services to more individuals and families in need.

- You will check in with your assigned refugee family on a weekly basis. Each in-person check-in should be 30-90 minutes. We request that you commit for a minimum of 3 months.
