Tutoring

Our summer literacy program is essentially a "Reading Buddy" program for our K-6th Grade members. We are aiming to have each volunteer with at least 2-3 members to assist with reading, sounding out words, writing, etc. dependent on the grade level they are working with. A lot of our members are about 2 grade levels behind and we are trying to combat the learning loss students are facing from the pandemic through 1-on-1 help. Each site is having this program for 2 hours and the times differ among the sites.

Mission Statement

True to its mission since 1937, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor helps young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. We achieve this through a commitment to quality programs and services in an environment that is safe, nurturing and inspiring.

Description

Volunteers make a significant impact in the lives of our members. The excellence of our programs is in part thanks to those who generously donate their time and expertise to help our youth reach their full potential.

We have a variety of areas in which volunteers can assist at our San Pedro, Wilmington or Port of L.A. Clubs. If you are interested, you can support our already existing programs or you can join us on a project basis to design your own lessons and expose our youth to new learning opportunities
