Adult Education Facilitator for Masters of Homeownership
Seeking an experienced adult educator who would be willing to volunteer to facilitate workshops. 2.5 month program offered twice a year.
We have a model curriculum given to us by another Habitat Affiliate that prepares future and existing homeowners for success in their homes. Topics like basic household electric, neighborhood safety, energy efficiency, etc. The curriculum already exists and was designed by an adult educator. We want to implement it locally in Independence, MO at the new Hiram Young School Homeownership Center (located next the Independence ReStore just off the Independence Square). This program will be offered to future and existing Habitat Homeowners as well as the broader community. Participants may take all the workshops or drop in for a topic of interest.
A subject matter expert will be teaching each night on basic plumbing, fire safety, insurance, etc. We want a consistent adult educator to be there all of the nights, providing the introduction and framing the topic in the larger coursework, assisting with implementing the existing curriculum, administering the pre/post-test, and working with the content specialist to keep the workshops engaging and effective.
You would also meet with the subject matter expert and our Family Success Coordinator to ensure the presenter is ready to provide a quality program.
The Family Success Coordinator will manage the scheduling and building use.
First pilot round will start Monday July 25, 2022 and will run Mondays (excluding Labor day) for about 9-10 weeks. (Might have some flexibility in day if absolutely can’t do Mondays). Class starts at 6pm. The other affiliate runs each class for 2.5 hours. That seems a little long to us. We want advice from an adult educator on how to adjust the curriculum to keep classes more to 1.5 hours or if you advise that 2.5 hours is good. We might need to break some subject matter into 2 sessions which would extend the number of weeks.
We look forward to meeting with potential volunteer Adult Educators to determine mutual fit. Participation could be ongoing or just for this initial first round of workshops.
We will separately be providing Financial Workshops and financial coaching. (The other Habitat did 9 weeks of financial then the 9 week masters of homeownership on a twice a year loop, so people could join at any time). This role would not need to be involved in the Financial Workshops unless that was of interest.
