New Haven / León Sister City Project (NH/LSCP) depends on volunteers and interns for much of what we do to promote education, public health and poverty reduction in Nicaragua and Connecticut. We are ESPECIALLY looking for people who could be involved a few hours a month over a longer time period.

NH/LSCP is seeking Social Media Volunteers to create content for our Facebook and Instagram channels. Social Media volunteers will work with our Communications Manager to create content that promotes our mission through program updates, volunteer opportunities, upcoming events, fundraising campaigns, and more. This role will include both content creation and regular posting and promotion on our primary social media channels (i.e., Instagram and Facebook). This is a great opportunity for anyone with social media experience who would like to support environmental and social change in Nicaragua & Connecticut. This volunteer role can be done remotely, on your own schedule, in just 1-3 hours per week!

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the mission, vision, values and goals NH/LSCP
  • Work with the Development Director & Communications Manager to create content according to our Communications Calendar
  • Manage our social media presence along with the other social media volunteers
  • Help grow our supporter base on Instagram & Facebook
  • Other assigned tasks as needed

SKILLS NEEDED:

  • A passion for our mission and work - in environmental & social change in New Haven, CT & León, Nicaragua
  • A genuine interest in communications, especially social media
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Availability to check on tasks at least once per week
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Design experience a plus
  • Prior knowledge of NH/LSCP is a plus
  • Bilingual English-Spanish is a plus

Description

The primary work of the NH/LSCP in León, Nicaragua is to support community based initiatives in the rural communities of Goyena and Troilo and to facilitate programs and projects that improve public health and community based education, support women’s rights, and address root causes of poverty. In New Haven we work to respond to climate change and promote public health. In both communities we work to build local leadership and capacity and address root causes of poverty and injustice.
