ORGANIZATION: GIRLS ROCK CAMPAIGN BOSTON

GRCB is a non-profit organization with a mission to empower girls, women, and gender expansive youth and adults to believe in themselves by building a supportive community that fosters self-expression, confidence, and collaboration through music education and performance. GRCB will be holding our week-long summer sessions and we are looking for volunteers! GRCB's Summer Sessions are week-long programs for girls and gender-expansive youths ages 8 to 17. Youth participants receive instrument instruction (guitar, bass, drums, vocals, or keyboards), form a band, and write an original song at a Boston-area music venue.

GRCB is looking for a passionate keys player to pass on their musical knowledge to a new musician! Our youth participants vary in age and skill level, including some who have never touched a musical instrument before. Previous teaching experience is not required. Instrument Instructors do some collaborative large-group teaching as well as small-group sessions (generally 3 to 5 youths per Instructor).

Before orientation, Instrument Instructors meet at least once with our Musical Curriculum Director and fellow Instrument Instructors to plan the curriculum and determine which style and level of experience each Instructor is comfortable teaching.

Requirements

*Ability to play one of the following instrument: Keys

* Must be able to develop a curriculum to meet participants at their skill levels and help them prepare for their band practices and the Showcase performance.

* Participate in mandatory meetings before the session begins with your Lead Instrument Instructor and fellow Instrument Instructors.

About GIRLS ROCK CAMPAIGN BOSTON

Mission Statement

Girls Rock Campaign Boston empowers girls, women, and youth and adults with marginalized gender identities to believe in themselves by building a supportive community that fosters self-expression, confidence, and collaboration through musical education and performance.

Description

Girls Rock Campaign Boston (GRCB) works to eradicate all the limiting myths about music and gender by helping girls, women, and youth and adults with marginalized gender identities speak up, sing out, and make a lot of noise!

GRCB is a volunteer-driven music education and mentorship organization that offers innovative and transformative programming to over 230 girls and youth with marginalized gender identities, ages 8 to 17, in the Boston area each year.

We believe that in order to become leaders in a world that frequently minimizes the voices of youth with marginalized gender identities, these youth deserve to learn, create, and grow in an environment full of positive, reflective, mentors to encourage a healthy sense of self and inspire creativity.

By connecting youth with positive role models, GRCB counters the myriad overt and subtle gendered messages about career and social expectations that youth absorb. GRCB’s programs allow youth to experience something bold and new while receiving unconditional support along the way. Immersed in an inclusive community of peers and mentors, they are encouraged to use their voices, take risks that they may have avoided in other environments, and build their resilience.
