Volunteers are needed to help care for our 200+ animals and 50+ birds of prey that are used therapeutically with our students with special needs.

Volunteers are assigned weekly shifts in our Teaching Barn, where they help care for llamas, sheep, goats, alpacas, cows, pigs, rabbits and chickens. Volunteer tasks can include mucking paddocks and stalls, feeding and cleaning the animals and helping with classes.

Volunteers also have weekly shifts in our Wildlife Center, home to birds of prey, including hawks, falcons, a bald eagle, condor, owls and more. Volunteers help care for the animals by assisting with animal rehabilitation, feeding, cleaning cages, maintaining trails and helping with classes.

Experience is not needed and all training will be provided.

Mission Statement

Green Chimneys is a multi-faceted nonprofit organization helping young people to maximize their full potential by providing residential, educational, clinical and recreational services, in a safe and supportive environment that nurtures connections with their families, the community, animals and nature.

Description

Green Chimneys offers day and residential programs for students who have been unsuccessful in traditional education environments and who benefit from a small, structured and supportive setting. Natural surroundings create a safe, therapeutic environment for students with special needs, incorporating innovative animal-assisted and nature-based activities. A nurturing approach features small class sizes, high staff-to-student ratio, and certified teaching staff to provide full academic, behavioral and emotional support for grades K-12. Our goal is to help students reach their maximum potential so they may return to their home school district with the best chance of success.
