One of our Hudson Valley youth groups - The Youth Arts Group - meets at their home in Cornwall on Hudson every Friday after school to create art, talk empowerment and systematic change. We focus specifically on making sure rural NY youth in the Hudson Valley are able to join us and that means driving to bring them to the group.
We are always looking for transportation volunteers - those who have an active drivers license and are able to pick up our students to bring them to the center and drive them home. Most of the commitment is Friday evenings, but may have other opportunities as well. If you're able to assist every week, once a month, or a few times a year - anything helps!
You would need to take our child safety course prior to volunteering for this opportunity.
*Know anyone who lives in Sullivan County on Long Island or Western NY? This opportunity is also available at those locations for transportation youth group needs.

Mission Statement
Rural & Migrant Ministry, Inc. works for the creation of a just, rural New York State through: Nurturing leadership Standing with the disenfranchised, especially farmworkers and rural workers Changing unjust systems and structures
Description
For us, it’s all about systemic change. Frankly we all get tired dealing with the effects of systemic oppression, we want to be with people who are committed to working for change. This requires persistence and patience, and funders who understand this commitment! Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer organizations able to focus on systemic change
Our focus on Leadership Development. All of our program first and foremost are about nurturing leaders for rural justice, whether they be grass-root leaders or ally leaders. As Lila Watson, and Aboriginal educator/artist said: If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. If you have come here because your liberation is bound up with mine, then stay and we can work together. Our commitment, our leadership is for long term impact.
The Leadership Development thread goes hand in hand with a second thread of Experiential Education (also called Participatory Education). We believe that the best way to develop our leadership is to go out and engage in the world, and then to step back and reflect and analyze, and then go back out and engage. This is an important aspect for our faith members, as one of our Christian members said: "We are interested in living into the Gospel, not preaching it".
