The Center for Disease Control and Prevent (CDC) and National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) is working with Health and Human Services' Administration for Community Living to test survey questions which we hope could be administered to those with intellectual or developmental disabilities living in the community, to help ensure inclusivity on national surveys. Through in-depth discussion, our qualitative research staff explore how potential survey respondents are able to understand and answer the survey questions we are testing:

  • Currently there are no national surveys with questions that capture the prevalence of ID/D individuals in the community
  • These questions will go on national surveys to impact funding, programs, and resources for the IDD community
  • We are looking to test these questions with 30 IDD individuals and their caregivers from the U.S. ONLY.
  • 1 hour interview through ZOOM
  • All participants will be mailed $40 in cash
  • All information is kept confidential
  • Respondents can choose to stop the interview at any time and still receive payment
  • For more information and to sign up email: recruitmentteam@cdc.gov or call: 301-458-4579

Mission Statement

The Collaborating Center for Questionnaire Design and Evaluation Research (CCQDER) conducts question evaluation and development studies for the National Center for Health Statistics, the CDC, and other HHS surveys. The primary method of evaluation is cognitive interviewing, although a range of other qualitative and quantitative methods, including focus groups, ethnographic methodology, and experimental web surveys, are also used. Question evaluation studies seek to identify patterns of interpretation, various forms of response error, and problems of question comparability across respondent groups.

Description

  • Question development and Evaluation: CCQDER conducts cognitive interviewing studies and other pretest methodologies in support of evaluating and developing reliable surveys for NCHS and external agencies.
  • Methodological Research: CCQDER researches and refines question evaluation methods while also working to better understand the question response process and survey response error.
  • Development of Technology Products: CCQDER develops software to improve qualitative data collection, analysis, and to increase the accessibility and transparency of question evaluation studies.
