Villages NW

Ready to join the village movement? Want to help neighbors spend more years living in their homes? Village Without Walls is looking for you!

Village Without Walls has been directly counter-acting the social isolation of COVID-19 pandemic especially for older adults.

After many years establishing a strong network of volunteers directly serving people in Cornelius, Forest Grove, Aloha, and Hillsboro - Village Without Walls is looking for new leadership in several key roles.

The role of Outreach/Membership Recruitment is the face of the village to the community.

1. Attend and report to the Governing Council meeting once a month (currently on Zoom)
2. Reach out to government and community organizations to explore partnerships
3. Recruit new members through tabling at events and creating promotional materials
4. Interview and onboard new members

Mission Statement

Villages NW is reshaping the experience of aging. We keep older adults connected and active, contributing members of the community. With 11 neighborhood-based virtual villages, seniors make new friends close to home, participate in online coffees, happy hours and other social activities. We also help each other out when needed with neighbor-to-neighbor home maintenance, yard work and errands.

The Village Movement is a holistic approach to vibrant, healthy aging. It combines a meaningful purpose in life; finding new friends as we begin to lose spouses and see less of long-time friends and neighbors; familiar surroundings; and preserving financial assets against the day when a higher level of care might be necessary. In addition to these quality of life issues, Villages fill gaps in support and services, which enable older adults to live independently.
We have 11 neighborhood-based villages with 600 members and a comparable number of volunteers in the Greater Portland Metro area. About half of our volunteers are also members.
Villagers are members rather than clients. About half volunteer in some way whether it is driving someone to the doctor, doing a little yard work, checking in with a member who is mostly homebound, working on activities or doing Village support.
