Urban Surf 4 Kids is a local surf therapy nonprofit for foster and at-risk youth. We provide surf therapy camps, career-focused programs, life-skills courses and monthly group mentorships.
This mentorship program takes the same youth every month for a different recreational activity. Common activities are surfing, hiking, sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking, rock climbing, etc.
We are looking for mentors who:
- Can serve as a positive role model for foster and at-risk youth
- Are passionate about uplifting youth who have suffered from abuse, neglect, and trauma
- Are willing to dedicate one recurring weekend day each month for 7 months
- Enjoy the outdoors and recreational activities
Volunteers must:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Commit to all outings, taking place on a weekend day (last Saturday or Sunday of each month, depending on the group you are in) until August.
- Provide all required documentation upon or shortly after application, including DMV record and proof of car insurance
- Be willing to complete a background check
- Review our 1 hr Trauma & Safety Training prior to participating in the program
- Review our Water Safety Course (under 15 min)
- Complete an online, 2-hour training course to become a volunteer mandated reporter
If this sounds like a good fit for you and you are able to commit to the once-a-month outings, please fill out our mentor application at urbansurf4kids.org under our 'Get Involved' section. For questions, please reach out to amy@us4k.org.
