Sewing A Memory Bear

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Brookhaven Hospice

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 5 people are interested

A Memory Bear, sewn by a volunteer with compassion and love, is a forever friend who can ease a hurting heart after the death of a Brookhaven hospice patient.

Sewn from a patient’s favorite pair of jeans, sports jersey, dress, work uniform, or shirt, a Memory Bear can evoke the closeness of a loved one, bring a smile to someone in distress, or offer a sense of security to a child who feels alone after the loss of a parent or sibling.

This is a great opportunity for you to give back to your community, use your creative skills, and strengthen your resume. By volunteering, you can make the biggest difference in another’s life.

All supplies are provided.

Mission Statement

Brookhaven Hospice provides patients and families with exceptional hospice care, and facilitates a meaningful end of life experience. With deep compassion and skill, we care for people living with serious illnesses, the dying and those who care for them.

Description

Hospice is a passion - we are driven to provide compassionate, responsible, and timely hospice services, always leading with dignity. Brookhaven Hospice was founded by a group of nursing home owners and operators to provide additional, specialized end-of-life resources to the residents residing in their facilities. Over time Brookhaven expanded to serve other facilities and the community at large.
Our butterfly logo symbolizes the need to accept the dramatic changes that affect our lives - to not only accept but also embrace the natural evolution of our bodies. Their transformation reminds us of the work we do on this earth, the preparation we undergo and the eventual transformation of our own spirit and soul. Brookhaven’s butterfly beckons us to keep our faith through the natural transitions in our lives - the need to recognize life’s patterns and prepare for the stages that affect us all.
