About Us:

Empowered Birth Movement e.V. is an independent nonprofit organization tackling maternal and neonatal health inequities through a Systems Thinking and intersectional justice lens.

Our mission is to reduce maternal health inequities by advancing community-oriented, peer-to-peer support and information throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We want to make sure this support/information is not only accessible and affordable, but also reflects the linguistic and cultural diversity of the country.

About the Role:

Translators are a very important part of our team! Primary responsibilities include:

• Translating Fact Sheets (1-2 pages, simple language on maternal health topic or health laws/entitlements) from English/German to target language.
• Time commitment: we are estimating one Fact Sheet per month.
• Occasional translation of social media/website content, if the translator has the capacity (German/Turkish speaker).

Requirements:

Translators should have a background in the field of translation/interpretation, medicine, public health, law, or similar.

They should have:

• Excellent written communication skills in English AND a native speaker of another language such as: German, Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish, French, Arabic, Pashto, Urdu, Turkish, Hindi, Japanese. Additional languages outside of this list are also valued.
• Experience, education, or training as a translator/interpreter with a general understanding of maternal/newborn health and legal topics.

The role is able to be completed remotely from anywhere in the world. We are a recently-founded, volunteer-run organization so of course, every team member is very important -- we want to make joining our team worth your time.
