Community Visionaries - Radio Reading for the Blind!

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service

We are seeking volunteer readers who will spend about one hour per week providing recorded readings from local newspapers, magazines, books and other printed materials. They will be broadcast and listened to by blind and sight-impaired individuals throughout Western and Central New York, Southern Ontario, and beyond. We're not looking for professional readers! Our Listeners describe it as having a loved one sitting next to them reading. If you love to read and want to help those that can't, this might be for you!

This is a virtual opportunity that can be accomplished from any internet connected device. We are, however, primarily interested in volunteers from our immediate service area (Western/Central New York State, Ontario, Canada).

If you don't choose to read but still want to help, our not-for-profit organization is completely dependent on donations to remain viable. It costs about $115/year to bring this service to one listener. Please consider a tax-deductible donation so they can keep listening!

Mission Statement

Mission The Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service provides resources and services that provides audio interpretation, translation and transcription of print & visual media for people who are blind or have a print or visual disability so that they make informed decisions as full participants in their communities while also enjoying its cultural resources, entertainments and supports.

This small but crucial not-for-profit organization has been reading for countless blind and sight-impaired residents for over 35 years. It is one of only three such services in New York State. Our compassionate and dedicated volunteer readers are now heard online anywhere there is an internet connection!

Our volunteers deliver personal readings from local news publications, magazines, books and other printed materials. This not-for-profit service has been in operation for 35 years. Most of our readers spend about 1 hour a week recording their reading. They quickly become part of this 'family' and our listeners truly appreciate their personal, compassionate, and non-professional touches to their broadcasts.
