Bainbridge Island Museum of Art seeks Art Installation Team Volunteers

Our summer 2024 installation cycle runs Mondays thru Fridays, June 3 thru July 5. Volunteer hours flex based on your skill sets, availability and our curatorial schedule. Our team often runs 9 AM - 5 PM, with some flexibility -- we ask for a bare minimum of 8 hours per week, more preferred. No experience or art background necessary, we will train you. You do not need to live on island, but within a reasonable commute from the Kitsap Peninsula or Seattle Ferry. Art Installation Team Volunteers work to help Curatorial Staff with the full and diverse range of duties required to de-install and install art exhibitions -- including artwork condition reports, art handling, moving and installation; exhibitions documentation and/or related errands and cleanup.

Crucial Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry both heavy and frail objects
  • Experience and skill with basic installation tools (hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, brooms, tape measures, cell phone cameras, etc.)
  • Team-focused and patient
  • Age 18+
  • Agree to Background Check, Confidentiality Agreement, Art Installation Procedures, and Volunteer Handbook Policies

Mission Statement

The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is an educational institution whose mission is to engage a diverse population with the art and craft of our region and our time.

Description

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is a collecting museum with a focus on artists and collections from the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas, as well as the broader Puget Sound region. Located just adjacent to the Seattle/Bainbridge Island ferry terminal at the corner of Highway 305 and the main street of Bainbridge, Winslow Way, the new art museum is a welcoming landmark and a prominent community resource for quality arts education and lifelong learning. Admission to the art museum is free through sponsors and members.

The art museum features themes and artists ranging from emerging and lesser known artists to recognized masters. The exhibitions will rotate on a regular basis - typically with the seasons and will amount to 12-16 shows per year. Education is a core value and is a primary function of the art museum to promote art education for people of all ages, interests, abilities, and skill levels.

We have gallery tours, artist talks, panel discussions, films, print and digital publications, hands-on art activities are featured in the classrooms, and in the 95-seat auditorium we host artist lectures, films, classical films, poetry and theatrical readings, musical performances, and community meetings.
