Health and Wellness Peer Educators volunteer to educate, equip and empower participants to successfully manage their health and improve their quality of life. They facilitate small group classes for 2-5 consecutive weeks, depending on the program, and coach and advocate Healthy Aging preventative measures. The programs focus on Chronic Disease Self-Management, Fall Prevention, Healthy Aging, Diabetes Self-Management, and Chronic Pain Self- Management. Prospective volunteers must have good communication and interpersonal skills, available transportation, interest and concern for older and disabled persons, be able to carry up to 20 lbs. and work as part of a team.

Description

The York County Area Agency on Aging was established in May of 1975 to plan, coordinate, and provide services to York County residents who are age 60 and over. The Agency's purpose is to offer appropriate, supportive services to enable York County's aging population to maintain their independence in their home as long as possible.

  • Orientation or Training
  • Peer Educators lead courses in various health and wellness topics. Depending on the courses, a minimum of 8 hours/year up to 30 hours/year.
  • Required to attend trainings as needed and attend annual leader meeting, will transport materials to various classroom locations in York County and submit participant paperwork to Agency
