PATH San Diego is in need of a volunteer to help lead their weekly gardening class this spring and summer. Spend the afternoon out in the sun as you tend to the garden, water and weed the plants, and pursue different gardening projects with their clients.
Leading this class will help their clients get involved in taking care of their rooftop community garden. Gardening and horticultural therapy can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression and are a great way for their permanent supportive housing residents to grow their own herbs, fruits, vegetables and flowers.
Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes
Time Commitment: Every Thursday during the summer, 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Onboarding Process: Volunteers will need to fill out PATH's volunteer application, a COVID waiver, and complete a tuberculosis (TB) test prior to starting their role. After completing these steps, volunteers will be invited to PATH's downtown location for a tour and orientation.
Desired Skills/Experience: Some gardening knowledge is preferable
Attire: Closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing you're not afraid of getting dirty
Physical Requirements: Bending, lifting up to 20 pounds, watering plants, snipping off dead branches. This volunteer opportunity can make accommodations for indviduals with physical limitations and the project area is wheelchair accessible.
