ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Docents are helpful, courteous representatives of San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park and as such, they wear a volunteer uniform provided by the park. They are life-long learners and study to improve their knowledge of maritime history, the park, San Francisco and the surrounding areas, and the National Park Service.

Docents seek ways to make meaningful and relevant connections of their site research and knowledge to visitors’ interests. They have volunteer privileges in the West Coast's largest maritime library and research center.

Docents in our program have a high standard of integrity, friendliness, reliability, curiosity, wisdom, stewardship, and a generous spirit to serve the public. They support the NPS mission and its efforts to promote relevance, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
