Great community service opportunity for family group, high school, college, or court-mandated. Minimum age 12; 12-16 must be accompanied by responsible adult.

Bag handlers (2-6 per shift) must be able to lift, walk and stand for long periods.

Friendly Greeters (2-4 per shift) talk to drivers and recruit volunteers; must be good communicators able to stand, walk, smile!

The Counter (one per site per shift) does not require lifting and may be seated.

Number of volunteers varies at each location: Site at Belvidere Township Building, 8200 Fairgrounds Road, Boone County only needs 4 per shift. Site at Machesney Park Town Center needs Traffic Control (Flaggers) in addition to bag handlers, greeters and a counter each shift plus an after-hours shift 2-4 p.m. for offloading trucks from other locations. Roscoe and Rockford sites are at KNIB Recycle Centers where recycling volunteers are also needed.

Volunteers should be able to comprehend instructions and safety guidelines and follow them. Be prepared for any weather. Close-toed shoes recommended for safety. Most positions are a 3 hour shift. Please specify site and shift preference.

First shift: 8:30-11:30 a.m. all locations

Second shift: 11:15 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. all locations

Off-loading shift: 2 p.m.- approximately 3:45 p.m. at Machesney Park Town Center south lot only, to shift loads from smaller trucks to semi-trailer. This is physically demanding and you will get dusty.
