For over 45 years, Nourish Pierce County has been dedicated to providing nutritious food to those in need with compassion, dignity, and respect. As the largest network of food banks in the county, we operate 7 brick and mortar food banks and have 2 award-winning semi-trailers/mobile food banks that serve an additional 16 sites in each corner of the country from Graham to Key Peninsula and from Edgewood to Lakewood. Nourish Pierce County is in need of a talented, self-starter who can help us pull all of our communication and marketing needs into one cohesive plan. This will help build capacity to further our efforts to continue to provide nutritious food to those who are experiencing food insecurity. In 2021, 8% of the population of Pierce County visited a Nourish Food Bank at least one time. To cover this vast geographical area and meet the needs of customers no matter where they live or work, hours of operations and days of operation vary. Clients are free to shop at any location once a week. No one in need is ever turned away. Nourish and its programs provide support to the 1 in 7 Washingtonians living in food-insecure environments; meaning they do not know where their next meal will come from. Food insecurity can affect anyone. Most of our customers are the working poor, homeless & unemployed. Our fastest-growing population is seniors. 32% of the customers we serve are children under the age of 18. While our goal is to provide each individual or family with enough food to make 3 meals a day for 3 days, Nourish is so much more. At Nourish we believe that no one should go hungry. That is why we exist. Children and families. The elderly, the working poor and people experiencing homelessness. We provide more healthy, nutritious food to those in need than any other organization in the area. We could not do this work if it were not for the committed volunteers who help us provide these services.

Member Duties: 100% in-person position - must be able to serve at the office. Hours: Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Occasional evenings and weekends. VISTA Assignment Description will include 1. Review our current communication and marketing efforts. 2. Design a sustainable communication calendar. 3. Develop a strategy to build a larger brand awareness via the website and social media. 4. Coordinate and maximize our communication efforts. 5. Design and produce emails, newsletters, and other regular communication. 6. Coordinate web page marketing campaigns. 7. At the end of the service year, a comprehensive, step-by-step guide will have been created allowing for anyone to continue the work.

Description

Greater South Sound VISTAs serve in the offices of our region’s public and nonprofit agencies, guided by the four Key Principles of VISTA Service: End Poverty, Build Capacity, Empower Communities, and Create Sustainable Solutions. Our Host Sites (the agencies hosting VISTAs) are spread across the Greater South Sound region, not only in Thurston County but also in Pierce, Thurston, Grays Harbor, Mason, Lewis, Jefferson, and Clallam Counties.

We’re looking for applicants of all ages, from all backgrounds, who are passionate about social justice and economic equity, self motivated, and team oriented. With VISTA, you choose where you submit your application - select the Host Sites that you’re the most passionate about. Each Host Site creates an individualized VISTA Assignment Description (VAD) to plan out the VISTA’s upcoming Year of Service, so each VISTA position is unique. Some VADs involve being out in the community regularly, whereas others might involve a lot of time in the office analyzing data or designing a website. Sample responsibilities listed in recent VADs include: developing trainings for food bank volunteers, revising policies for a shelter, creating a public awareness campaign to prevent human trafficking, writing grants for a free childcare program, and more.
