Join Climate Change and Health Teams of High Schools Students from US and Iraq
United Planet is calling U.S. high school students (rising juniors, seniors, and graduating seniors) to join a Unique State Dept. Funded Summer Program. The American-Iraqi Climate Change and Health Teams Program will engage 128 high school students from the United States and Iraq to work on climate change and its effects on human health, while developing 21st skills, leadership, and partnership. The program requires a volunteer commitment of 4-6 hours per week over 6 weeks and 1-2 hours of orientation over a preparation week. Students will receive an honorarium ($20) and a Certificate of Global Citizen Leadership.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for students to develop their leadership skills while working closely with peers in Iraq to address climate change and its impact on health - a leadership, resume, and community service builder! Excellent for internship or community service requirements (up to 40 hours).
Teams will be supported by college and university student Team Captains. Boston University is a signature partner.
Duration of the Program
- 7 weeks of Team Activities
- 4-6 hours of volunteer commitment per week
- Orientation starts June 24 through June 28, 2022 (2 hours)
- Program activities are entirely virtual: week of July 5th through August 19, 2022
- Applications due May 30, 2022
Responsibilities
- Meet virtually with the teams for 1 hour per week
- Engage in the weekly meeting discussions and complete tasks as assigned by the Team Captains
- Work with teams to on final projects

- Available for 4-6 hours of volunteer commitment per week
- Submit the Program application within the deadline - May 30, 2022
