Myers-Wilkins Elementary Summer Volunteer

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Duluth Community School Collaborative

Volunteer with our elementary schoolers this summer! This program will provide a variety of enrichment activities for students grades 1-5 including science, art, physical activity, and nature play.

As a volunteer, you will support us in hosting a high-quality summer program for kids meant to increase their sense of belonging and engagement with their school.

The program will run on weekdays from NOON-3:00, from Monday -Thursdy June 16th to July 18th. Feild Trips on Fridays From 8-noon same dates 6/16-7/18

We need volunteers who can consistently attend the summer program at least one day week-to-week. This is important because volunteer presence is most beneficial to kids when they see the same volunteers every week and can build relationships with those volunteers. However, if you have differing availability and would like to volunteer, please reach out as there may still be opportunities in the program that fit with your schedule.

Types of things we need volunteers for:

  • Engaging with kids
  • Supporting students during activities
  • Handing out lunch and snacks
  • Taking photos of the program

Volunteer commitments:

  • Show up in-person for the students weekly
  • Submit to a background check
  • Personal commitment to anti-racism and the mission, goals, and philosophy of the Duluth Community School Collaborative

Volunteers are supervised by our Out of School Time Coordinator at Myers-Wilkins.

If you’re interested in volunteering with us, please fill out the form linked under "Volunteer" on our page https://www.duluthcsc.org/support.

If you have questions about this or other volunteer opportunities, contact Cassie at Cassie@duluthcsc.org

About Duluth Community School Collaborative

Location:

Mission Statement

Our mission is to foster community partnerships promoting wellness and school success for youth and families, creating a community of life-long learners that embraces diversity.

Description

The Duluth Community School Collaborative is a nonprofit that provides services in several Duluth Public Schools, including Myers-Wilkins Elementary School, Lincoln Park Middle, and Denfeld High. These schools serve families with higher rates of poverty than many others in the District. Poverty often leads to academic under-performance, and limited access to the educational, social, and cultural enrichment opportunities.

The Duluth Community School Collaborative works with community organizations and individuals to support academic success and well-being of the whole child. We provide academic support, enrichment, arts and cultural activities, employment readiness, health-related services, and various other programming to holistically meet students' needs at our three sites.

The impact of these services extends far beyond the walls of the school, benefiting neighborhoods, partner organizations, businesses, and the city of Duluth.
