ORGANIZATION: L.A. Works

Help Young Professionals: Career Skill Development REMOTELY

Quick Overview:

Support young adults in their professional development and help them enhance their career skills.

Mission or Broader Program Description:

AmeriCorps VISTA members build capacity in nonprofit organizations and public agencies to help them more effectively generate the commitment of private sector resources, encourage volunteer service at the local level, and empower individuals and communities. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve full time for one-year terms.

This project is part of RSVP at L.A. Works' Adult Education and Employment initiative. We are organizing a series of volunteer-led workshops with various nonprofit partners like AmeriCorps VISTA to prepare young adults for new jobs and opportunities that will lead to a fulfilling career. Topics include networking, interview skills, resume, cover letter writing, financial literacy and more.

Impact:

Your choice to volunteer with AmeriCorps VISTA is to support young adults in the community who want to make better lives for themselves and be productive citizens in their community. Any experience you have as a professional yourself is invaluable to the youth. If you've ever had a job, you can help someone else make their way through the start of their careers!

Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities:

As a volunteer, you will contribute to the whole group conversation, while a Project Leader facilitates the topic. You may need to provide timely feedback online (depending on the topic) and work in small groups with youth through online video conference.
