Help Arabic-Speaking Kids Thrive - Be a Summer Enrichment Volunteer

Save to Favorites

Recruiting Organization: Foundation Communities

  • Do you want to make a difference in a child’s life?
  • Do you want to grow your skills working with youth in an educational and service-oriented environment?
  • Do you have experience and skills to share from a personal or professional background working with kids?
  • Do you like to have fun? Connect with kids? Learn about yourself?

If you said yes to any of the above, then we need you!

Foundation Communities is a local nonprofit dedicated to providing quality affordable housing and support services to families and individuals. We operate free after school programs at 12 Learning Centers all over Austin. Students at our centers have diverse language backgrounds. While all students speak English at school, many students at our Cardinal Point (78726), Lakeline Station (78717), and Vintage Creek (78723) centers speak Arabic at home. Volunteers with this language skill or shared cultural experience can offer invaluable learning support to and connection with our Arabic-speaking students.

We are seeking volunteers to provide general classroom support, as well as help our elementary-age students with math & science skills, reading, fitness, enrichment activities and social/emotional skills to thrive this summer and beyond!

Programs run Monday through Friday between 10 am and 3 pm. See specific volunteer shifts by site here. We can offer some flexibility for arrival and departure within these times. To start, volunteers commit to at least one regular shift per week for the term. During the school year, we run afterschool programs between 3:30 and 6:00 pm weekdays.

Volunteers must complete an online application, pass a background check (no cost to the volunteer), and complete an orientation course. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Our orientation courses will open in late May for the daytime summer enrichment program and in August for the next school year. Let us know you're interested for information on how to get started!
