Since Karma Rescue was founded in 2003, Karma has grown from a traditional pet rescue adoption model into something greater: programs that tackle the systemic issues driving pets into shelters and euthanasia head on. Although we have moved away from having a traditional pet adoption program, we are still passionately dedicated to being responsible for every animal that came into Karma Rescue's care. We adamantly believe "once a Karma animal, always a Karma animal". With this in mind we have seen some dogs and cats returned to Karma Rescue from their adopted families over the years for a variety of reasons. At Karma we are dedicated to providing these animals with the best care possible while we try and find them a new loving forever home. This is where our volunteer foster parents step in!

As a volunteer foster parent for Karma Rescue, you will be required to provide the following for your foster animal:

  • A temporary, safe and caring home for an agreed upon period of time, providing love and patience to an animal that is adjusting to their new surroundings
  • Care including food*, fresh water, exercise, socialization and shelter (*Foster parents can choose food appropriate for their foster animal but if unable to provide food, Karma Rescue will provide food to feed your foster animal)
  • Safe access to outside areas for foster dogs for exercise and for the dog to relieve themselves. Foster dogs will always be under the foster parent’s control either on leash or within the confines of their property (in a secure fenced area).
  • Basic training for foster dogs in their new environment with support from the Karma Rescue team
  • Supervision of the foster dog at all times in the presence of children and/or other animals, whether in or out of the home.
  • Care inside the home only, for foster cats and kittens.
  • Written or verbal progress reports on the animal’s activities and behavior, upon Karma Rescue’s request.
  • Help promoting your foster animal for adoption. Have your dog wear bright adopt me bandanas for walks or share your animal’s story on your social media platforms.
  • Availability to meet potential adopters and answer any questions they may have about the animal

Karma Rescue will support you in your role in the following ways:

  • Providing medical care for all foster animal(s)
  • Karma Rescue staff available to assist you with any pet related emergency, such as a medical emergency or lost animal.
  • Support for fosters who encounter any behavioral concerns with their foster animal.
  • Promotion of the foster animal in your care to help find them a forever home.
  • Giving our foster parents the "right of first refusal" to permanently adopt the foster animal if such placement is approved by Karma Rescue.

The safety and wellbeing of animals is our upmost priority at Karma Rescue and we strive to support our foster parents to provide the most patient, safe and loving temporary homes for our animals.

If you think you might be able to help us please email volunteer@karmarescue.org.

About Karma Rescue

Location:

2632 Wilshire Blvd #155, Santa Monica, CA 90403, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to end economic euthanasia and elevate the human-nonhuman animal bond by building healthy, humane communities.

Description

Karma promises to do everything in our power to keep families and pets together. Since 2003, we have been preventing shelter overcrowding by providing lifesaving medical aid to low-income families and free spay/neuter services to underserved communities throughout Los Angeles.

No family should have to give up their loved pet because of financial reasons. What if we could reduce economic euthanasia of pets by keeping them healthy and with their families where they belong?

That’s what Karma does.
