When Are Volunteer Opportunities Available?

Every Wednesday 5-7pm between May 11, 2022 -June 8th, 2022

To Participate, You Must Complete the SCHA Work Party & Events RSVP Form:

What Are Work Parties?

Our co-ops have acres of land that need a lot of work to be maintained. We have regular work parties at most of our co-ops and we cordially invite you to hang out with us and get your hands dirty. It’s a good opportunity to learn more about planting/growing/harvesting food, trimming trees, weed abatement, native plants, landscaping, and more!

Our "work parties" are volunteer work days open to the public; and members, alumni, friends, community members and prospective applicants are welcome to join! Please email to get added to the 'SCHA Volunteers’ email list.

We’re happy to host large volunteer events for schools, organizations, Greek life, etc. Please be in touch with us ahead of time if you have a group of 5+,

Volunteers under age 16 cannot participate without an adult present.

What You May Be Doing:

As tasks become completed, the responsibilities will likely vary from one Work Party to another. The following will provide you with a general idea of what we've had people participate in:

1) Building raised garden beds
2) Building compost
3) Cleaning up trash
4) Fixing the grape arbor
5) Hand weeding
6) Mulching
7) Planting vegetables
8) Pruning
9) Harvesting crops
10) Building and planting a "living fence"

After you RSVP, you will receive an email at least 24 hours before the event with specific details regarding that event.

Solar Community Housing Association (SCHA) is a Davis-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides cooperative housing for low-income people. SCHA is governed by residents, who serve as representatives on the board of directors. SCHA houses 88-90 co-op residents between six co-op houses with 7-15 residents each and "The Domes" - a co-housing community of 26 residents housed in 13 two-bedroom dome homes.
