The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

Special Olympics Montana is a nonprofit organization designed to provide year-round, statewide programs of physical fitness, sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and closely related developmental disabilities.

- Must be at least 12
- Seasonal depending on number of sports participating. During the season, weekly practices required. Competitions could sometimes occur during the work/school week one day per quarter or year.
- Driver's License/Background Check required for volunteers 18 or over. Training occurs concurrent with the sports practice.
