our organization was founded right before the Pandemic which made our mission more important than ever. We reach out to Seniors who are suffering from social isolation and loneliness. Our volunteers (Kindness Companions) are matched with a Senior (TLK Friend) who could benefit from regular, ongoing visits. We spending time doing things the enjoy. By doing this, we build relationships based on friendship, trust and kindness. We help them capture some joy and feel they matter and they are loved.

We prefer approximately one hour visits once a week, but never more than two weeks between visits. The schedule is made by the Kindness Companion and their TLK Friend. That way they both know what to expect. We provide all materials needed for the Senior to be able to do things the enjoy it would like to learn.

In a way, we are addressing the impact of Covid on Seniors living in nursing care facilities. Many have explained how terrible it was for them. They were shut in their room for long periods of time. Being isolated brought them down. Some have told me they would rather take a chance on getting Covid than be stuck in their room again. We do wear a mask when we go on visits.
