Evening volunteer tutors needed!

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Albuquerque Adult Learning Center, Inc., dba, ABQ-ALC

ABQ-ALC's High School Equivalency and Career Pathways Preparation Program is currently looking for volunteer tutors with evening availability to help in all Adult Basic Education, Pre-High School Equivalency (HSE) and High School Equivalency Prep subjects. Volunteers will assist our instructors with daily classes for mixed and/or leveled programs (Literacy, Adult Basic Education, and HSE). We have openings for both in-person and online tutoring. Duties may include:

  • One-On-One in-person Tutoring
  • In-class support
  • Substitute teaching
  • Small group fast track tutoring
  • Online tutoring using Google Meet or Zoom

Our classes run Monday-Thursday 5-7pm. We do not need tutors to come in for every class day, 1-2 classes a week is our preference. We are looking for volunteers specifically to work with students who only have evening availability. Our classes especially need in-class assistants.

If you are interested in the education field, this opportunity would be a great experience to practice your teaching skills and will even look great on your resume. This opportunity is also great for seasoned educators looking to give back to the community. We provide educational resources, tutor training, and support from staff. Prior experience working with at-risk youth and/or underrepresented minority adults a plus!

Please also note: Due to the time it takes to complete training and to find a learner who is a good match, this is not a quick-start opportunity, and we generally ask for a 6-month minimum commitment.
