ORGANIZATION: Holden Arboretum

Are you a student with an interest in biology? Would you like experience doing field work with research staff? You can volunteer as part of the summer research team with Holden Forests & Gardens! Our research department (https://holdenfg.org/our-impact/research/) has a number of research projects studying soil ecology, plant physiology, rhododendron breeding, community ecology and evolutionary ecology. They can also help high school and undergraduate students gain experience working with scientists outside of the school setting. Summer research volunteers may choose to take part in the August poster presentation to showcase to others what they have learned. Depending on your school, you may be eligible for school credit for your volunteer service.

All Holden Forests & Gardens volunteers must be vaccinated for COVID-19. Field work does carry potential risks such as traversing uneven terrain, possible exposure to poison ivy, ticks and stinging insects. Volunteers need to be able to hike up to two miles, sometimes off trail. Volunteers also need to have some weekday availability.
