Do you like to watch documentaries? Would you be interested in discussing documentaries with other people? The Spokane Meaningful Movies group is looking for volunteers who can help produce and advertise online and in person events for the Spokane location. Depending on skills and interest, team-members help to choose the films; research screening rights; work with aligned non-profits and activists to find speakers; advertise; act as moderators for panel discussions and so much more. Through our Meaningful Movies events we are raising awareness about important issues, building community and helping people learn to understand and care for each other better. We believe that this is more important than ever. Please join us!

About MEANINGFUL MOVIES PROJECT

Location:

PO BOX 31005, SEATTLE, WA 98103, US

Mission Statement

The Meaningful Movies Project is a non-profit organization that assists neighborhoods, groups and individuals to organize, educate and advocate using the power of social justice documentary film and relevant conversation to build positive and meaningful community and a more just and peaceful world.

Description

The Meaningful Movies Project is the organizing arm of a network of independent volunteer-run venues that show social justice documentaries followed by facilitated conversation. We help neighborhoods, groups and individuals produce local film events which use the power of social justice documentary film and facilitated conversation, to build positive and meaningful community and support peace and justice.

The Meaningful Movies Network is a collective of autonomous neighborhood and community Meaningful Movies Groups that have agreed to work together and support one another.

OUR WORK:
We help people learn about important issues and bridge divides. By connecting one person to one person at a time, we quickly discover that we are far more similar in our core beliefs than we are different. Film coupled with meaningful conversation is a subtle, yet powerful way to help people recognize these similarities, rebuild a storytelling tradition, foster a vital community dialog and allow true democracy to unfold.

We advocate for public discussion and critical debate in an environment where everyone is free to speak openly without fear. We empower citizens to gather, educate, inspire, connect, and commit to effective, non-violent solutions in building a more peaceful and just world. We encourage and assist communities and organizations in their efforts to become more aware of and critically analyze local, domestic and international social justice issues.
