ORGANIZATION: LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF OAKLAND INC

  • 1 person is interested

The League of Women Voters Oakland is part of a large national organization. As one of more than 500 local Leagues we operate within a national framework with brand, policy and communications guidelines while still having very significant grassroots flexibilty in terms of priorities and resource allocation.

Even as we building our digital footprint, we need an experienced volunteer who understands communications and marketing and has some experience with graphic design and print publication.

The League is an all-volunteer organization, so the ideal candidate will enjoy a culture where women lead and where our mission is to protect the democracy. The substance of our work is deeply embedded in local government, so this is also an opportunity to learn about local issues and government in our backyard.

The Print Publication Manager will be part of our communications team, assisting League leadership with creation of printed and digital promotional and educational materials. Generation of original content is also welcome, especially in the form of interviews and other short form pieces that amplify the League's work and issues that are currently before the voters.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation in government. We pursue our mission through education on major public policy issues and by influencing public policy through research and advocacy. Through collaboration with community organizations and by advocacy with local government, we’ve been able to make a positive impact in voter education and engagement by: - Supporting more voter participation in under-served communities - Development of fair representation through nonpartisan re-districting and campaign finance reform - Creating new ways to evaluate citizen oversight committees

Description

Dating to its founding in 1920, the League of Women Voters U.S. has a long, proud history of expanding voter access, fighting voter suppression, advocating for limits of money in politics, and opposing partisan and racial gerrymandering. The League of Women Voters Oakland is part of a national network of more than 700 local and state Leagues with more than 500,000 members nationally operating in all 50 states.
