Mission Statement

Our mission is to fight against police brutality and to support our extended families -- who, while not related by blood, are bonded to us through the needless bloodshed of our loved ones.

Description

Ohio Families Unite Against Police Brutality (OFUAPB) is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to fight against police brutality and to support our extended families - who, while not related by blood, are bonded to us through the needless bloodshed of our loved ones. OFUAPB was founded by Sabrina Jordan in 2018 after her son was killed by police in October of 2017. After the tragic loss of her son, Ms. Jordan united a network of other families who have lost loved ones to police abuse, creating a connected space for support, healing, and action. OFUAPB was founded to give families a space to grieve and control their own platform for grief and advocacy. OFUAPB serves the growing need within Ohio to support the families of people who have been killed by police, while building a table for families impacted by police violence to advocate, support, and strive for change.

After the hailstorm of media attention during the onslaught of their greatest loss, families are often forgotten in the wake of the frenzy, left to cover the costs of funeral and burial services, legal battles seeking justice, and caring for their grief and recovery on their own. Often, surviving families have complex emotional burdens carried in their grief - a vindicated rage, enormous loss, and severe distrust of the policing system. Families need a platform of support, dedicated to connection and to providing a space for voices to lift up and demand a change.
