At the heart of Girls on the Run are amazing volunteers whose commitment and passion impact the lives of thousands of girls each year. We are in need of people just like you to make our 5K event a success! Please go here to learn more and sign up (scroll down to 'volunteer'):

Anyone who has been to a Girls on the Run 5K knows that it is unlike any other running event. It is a celebration of and for the girls who are completing an eight-week season of Girls on the Run programming. By the day of the 5K, their enthusiasm is so unbridled that they are running around before the race! Positive energy abounds as the girls dance to warm-up music, get their hair "happied" and "tattoos" on their faces, and gather with their teammates to hold hands as they head to the starting line.

By volunteering for the 5K, whether on Race Day or in the preparation activities in the days prior, YOU will be part of making that magic happen! Thank you for believing in our mission and showing up to support our girls!

About Girls on the Run Eastern Iowa

26 E Market St, IOWA CITY, IA 52245, US

Mission Statement

We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

We are a ten week after school program for girls in grades 3-8. The girls meet at their school with volunteer coaches to go through a curriculum that teaches them important life skills such as how to be a good friend, how to stand up to gossip and bullying, positive self talk, and even complete a community impact project all while using physical activity and movement to train for a 5k. At the end of the ten-weeks we have a celebratory final 5k where the girls at all of the sites come together and gain confidence through accomplishment! Our goal is to really develop the whole girl mentally, physically, emotionally, and socially.
