Title: Programing/Workshops/General Events
Hours: 4-7 hours/month
Schedule: Flexible, weekends and evenings as needed.
Physical requirements: Varied and may include standing/moving for a couple hours, moving tables, chairs, supplies.
SJMQT’s programs are a vital part of the museum. Through our public engagement programs we strive to create a positive, welcoming and inclusive experience for the public, both in person and virtually. Through our outreach programs, we seek to provide creative and learning opportunities for everyone in our community. We believe that fabric holds an innate power to connect people of varied backgrounds
What you will be doing:
- Assisting with public programs, workshops, and events. This may include preparing supplies and materials, setting up and taking down chairs and tables, supporting educators in leading the activities, or monitoring the galleries during the events.
- Communicating with a variety of visitors with diverse interests and abilities in a way that enhances their understanding of the Museum and fiber art.
- Informing visitors about the SJMQT exhibitions, programs, facilities, and activities.
- Inviting visitors to share their feedback and connect with the museum deeper by joining our mailing list, becoming a member or volunteer.
- Filing timesheets in a timely manner. Use the Volunteer Portal to submit timesheets.
- Other related tasks, as assigned.
You will be great for this role if:
- You are an enthusiastic, flexible, reliable, open-minded, and collaborative person who desires to work with a diverse group of people including museum staff, community members, and the public.
- You are interested in creative hands-on activities, and want to learn about the Museum’s history, current and upcoming exhibitions and programs, as well as share this knowledge with visitors.
- You are comfortable working in a large group setting with children, families, and community groups.
- You are available weekends and evenings as needed
- You are bilingual (not required, but a plus).
