Food Pick Up during UW Student Move Out
ORGANIZATION: Goodman Community Center
Please visit the new page to apply.
UW Madison has created a way for students to support food pantries by donating their unneeded and unopened food during their move out week, May 7 - May 15. Volunteers are needed each day to visit collection sites at dorms on campus. Each volunteer will be assigned a dorm or two to visit. Donations are picked up on campus and will be dropped off at the GCC Food Pantry at 149 Waubesa Street. You can sign up to help one day or many depending on your schedule. Pick up can occur between 9:00 am - 6:00 pm and will take about 1 - 1.5 hours depending on the volume of donations. Volunteers need to use your personal vehicle that could easily fit between 5-9 boxes of food. Volunteers must be able to lift heavy food and sort through donated items. Volunteers will be responsible for emptying contents of donation barrels into provided containers, transporting the items to Goodman and unloading them into a donation staging area at Goodman Center.

Description
The Goodman Community Center is not your average community center. As I get to talking with people about Goodman, they inevitably end up surprised. They’re surprised by how many programs and resources we offer, how beautiful our facilities are, or how many people we serve. Every year more than 30,000 people use the Center - some who come to one event, others who are very familiar faces here.
Thanks to our generous community, we just built and moved into a second beautiful facility across the street, the Brassworks building. We’re now reconfiguring and refreshing the Center’s first home on Waubesa Street, the Ironworks building. During this past ten years, we’ve nearly doubled in size.
Our staff are committed to learning and continually improving, too. That’s why each program uses a variety of tools to measure impacts for both the program overall, and for each individual participant. We use that data to constantly fine-tune what we do - and how we do it.
We’re glad Goodman is one of many organizations in the Madison area who are pouring themselves into making our community great - for us all. We hope you’ll join us. Because we know that every good thing that happens here is made possible by people like you.
