Position Title: Group Travel Volunteer Date: April 2022

Reports to: Assistant Visitor Services Manager - Group Travel FLSA: Volunteer

Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Visitor Services Manager - Group Travel, the Group Travel Volunteer works with the Visitors Services Team to deliver a positive, welcoming, and efficiently organized experience for our group tour customers.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Help ensure that group tours are conducted as scheduled by greeting groups upon arrival and assisting with the check-in process.
  • Help groups move efficiently through the museum store by welcoming group visitors into the store as well as wrapping and bagging purchases.
  • Act as grounds ambassador orienting groups and gathering them for their scheduled tour times.
  • Answer questions regarding the historic site, Salem, and the surrounding area.

Preparation, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Must have the ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public and other staff members
  • Ability to accept supervision, work both independently and in a group, and be flexible to changing situations
  • Must be guest focused
  • Have a basic knowledge of historic Salem

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Arrive at work on time and work the entire agreed upon shift
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in most weather conditions.
  • Be presentable, well groomed, and wear name badge with lanyard (given by The Gables)
