FOOD: Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive - Sort, Load, & Organize
ORGANIZATION: Porchlight Community Services
Please visit the new page to apply.
Be a part of ending hunger in San Diego and participate in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the largest one-day food drive in the nation. Every second Saturday in May, letter carriers in cities across America collect the goodness and compassion of their postal customers, who participate.
Porchlight Community Services needs volunteers to help them sort and load the food items that have been donated. Stamp Out Hunger will help restock their pantry's shelves with much needed food items.
This is a fun way to help your neighbors, meet people, and/or team build with your employees. It's also a great opportunity for service organizations or youth groups.
Please note that this will be taking place at the Rancho Bernardo Post Office, located at 16960 Bernardo Center Dr. Suite 100, San Diego CA 92128.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Porchlight Community Services is to empower lives, promote healthy eating and eliminate food insecurity.
Description
We run a dual program that provides a FoodSHARE for struggling families and a free option for low-income families to attain food. We are helping a community disproportionately affected by food insecurity - People with generally no way of getting aid to reach self-sufficiency.
Every Thursday and Sunday, Porchlight Community Services processes over 3,000 pounds of rescued food that will be going to our community's families. Porchlight is volunteer-led, so they rely on their great community of folks that want to give back.
Porchlight provides a dignified experience for those seeking to change their circumstances and have access to nutritious food. As a "Choice pantry", their distribution events are set up like a grocery store. Clients come in and choose their food products while accompanied by a volunteer.
Volunteers help with unloading, sorting, organizing food items on tables, shelves, refrigerators, and freezers, cleaning, sanitizing, and making it comforting and appealing for those coming to "select" their items later in the day.
Sign up to see how you can play a critical role in helping families have access to food while working toward achieving long-term financial stability.
