Position Description
This role is for you if you have enthusiasm for supporting LGBTQ+ youth, an ability to creatively address challenges, and excitement for networking with schools and youth-serving partners. If you value organization and strong communication, you will thrive in this role. This Americorps member facilitate, develop content, and conduct outreach to engage LGBTQ+ youth in a virtual Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) empowerment group. The member will also focus specifically on outreach to students in rural communities.
This Americorps member will leave their service term with competencies in group facilitation, strategic thinking, and project management. They will have the chance to develop skills like clear communication and speaking in front of a group, collaboration, and resource planning, and will have the opportunity to work with community partners.

Responsibilities
- Expand the reach of the virtual GSA Empowerment group by recruiting new members through relationship building with partners
- Create templates and guides for facilitation of virtual GSA Empowerment group for future group leaders and for youth who have an interest in leading their peers
- Clarify roles with existing partners along with establishing new partnerships for enhancement of the virtual GSA Empowerment group
- Monitor the platform through which members of the GSA will connect with each other and with the organization
Typical Day In This Position
The member in this role might start a typical day in a meeting with their manager reviewing the week’s tasks. Then, they would work on gathering content and resources for the upcoming GSA meeting, follow up with a few community partners and end the day by facilitating the virtual GSA after school hours. Another typical day would include staff training or meetings with larger staff groups to collaborate on trends and resources for the youth we serve.
Service Schedule
Set schedule with some flexibility to be determined with member, to include regular weekday availability, about 20 hours per week.
Competencies
Members should have experience with or the willingness to develop competencies in these areas:
(1) Working with LGBTQ+ youth ages 13 and up
(2) Building relationships and collaborating with partners
(3) Proficiency in online platforms such as Facebook, Discord, Zoom, etc. or ability to learn quickly
(4) Presentation and facilitation skills
Key abilities include:
(1) Willingness to use creative thinking to solve problems
(2) Willingness to follow-up and reliably communicate information in a timely manner
(3) Working effectively in a team-oriented environment
Other Skills
This member should be comfortable speaking in front of a group and working with youth. A person who has participated in similar groups would be preferred but not required. A person who has familiarity with working in rural settings is preferred but not required.
