Our non-profit land conservancy is seeking volunteers to join our Event Planning Committee as we plan our next major, in-person fundraising event for 2023. This is a major fundraising event we hold every other year, and the last one in 2021 had virtual elements as well as its in-person component; at this stage we're assuming we'll need to include both for 2023. Experience in event planning or fundraising is ideal. However, we're primarily seeking committee members interested in working with others to approach sponsors and donors, brainstorm a theme, help plan and execute the components of any party (venue, invitations, decorations, food, activities, logistics), help organize a silent auction, and work the event. A real advantage would be experience using and maintaining social media accounts.
We meet (virtually and/or in-person) once a month for a 2-hour evening meeting. (Historically they've been 6:30-8:30 pm on the second Monday of the month, but this may change.) When in-person the meetings are at our headquarters in Superior Township, east of Ann Arbor and north of Ypsilanti. We're flexible on meeting arrangements, as Zoom has made meetings more convenient for many people. Depending on the areas you might take the lead on, additional hours would likely be 4-8 hours per month, with an increase occurring in the immediate months leading up to the event.
We hope to begin meeting in July, 2022 and are requesting approximately a 16-18 month commitment if we choose a fall 2023 date for the event. We will welcome those who need to start after the initial months as well.

Description
Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy (SMLC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and qualified conservation organization dedicated to conserving and managing wildlife habitat in order to foster healthy ecosystems, protect air and water quality, and provide scenic enjoyment. We also work to promote appreciation of the natural world; educate the public about conservation options; and engage communities throughout southeast Michigan in land protection and stewardship activities.
SMLC was founded in 1988 by people who felt there should be a way for land owners to protect natural lands and open spaces in southeast Michigan. Our service area covers the 7-county (Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw, Wayne) southeast Michigan region. To manage day-to-day operations, the Conservancy's 3-person staff takes care of many tasks including coordination of volunteers.
