Backpacks for Success

United Way of Greater Cincinnati is asking community and corporate volunteers to collect, assemble and distribute 1,500 backpacks filled with school supplies for elementary, middle and high school students throughout Hamilton County. We know quality education is crucial for families to achieve economic well-being, so United Way is committed to ensuring all children are prepared to learn. This is one way to help.

There are three easy ways to support this effort:

  1. Contribute items through our Virtual Product Drive - Purchase school items for elementary and middle/high school students from our Virtual Backpacks for Success product drive.
  2. Host Your Own Assembly Event - Purchase backpacks and school supplies on your own (United Way will provide a list), assemble the backpacks with friends, family, or colleagues, and deliver them to United Way for distribution. We will work with you to coordinate a drop-off day of your completed backpacks to United Way.
  3. Volunteer in Person - The backpacks will be distributed during three community events in July and August. Volunteers (including small groups up to 10 people) are needed for the Back-to-School events listed below:
    • July 30, 1-3PM at Corinthian Baptist Church, serving students and families in Bond Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods
    • Aug. 13 , 1-4PM at Chase Elementary School in Northside
    • Aug. 20, 11AM-2PM at Kennedy Heights Arts Center, serving Silverton Elementary School and TCP World Academy
Sign-up, and United Way will reach out to learn more about your preferences for supporting this program, and provide information and next steps.

Thank you for helping students return to school prepared to learn!

Mission Statement

United Way is a leader and community catalyst mobilizing the caring power of individuals and organizations to help people measurably improve their lives.

United Way works every day to advance the common good by focusing on the building blocks for a better life - education, income, and health. We concentrate on these critical issues in order to improve lives and strengthen our communities, and ultimately, to make our region the best it can be.

United Way of Greater Cincinnati was founded in 1915. The annual fundraising campaign became a partnership with American Red Cross, Cincinnati Area Chapter, in 1956. Today the organization covers ten counties: Hamilton, Brown, Butler and Clermont in Ohio; Boone, Campbell, Grant, and Kenton in Northern Kentucky; and Dearborn and Ohio counties in Southeast Indiana.
