Mission Statement

Providing African American single parents with financial assistance to reach their educational goals

Description

My Education Matters Scholarship Foundation is a new nonprofit organization that is in the start up process. We are currently seeking a third board member to fill the Treasurer position as well as other volunteers to help and assist during fundraiser events, scholarship selection process, and other events. The founder, Shamari Burnett, (myself) is a 22 year old single mom who had her son during her second year of undergraduate. She is currently finishing up her degree with one semester left and it would not have been possible without all the scholarships that she earned after becoming a mom.

The goal is to help other single parents who are just like her. She plans to provide scholarships for up to four single parents (2 moms, 2 dads) each semester. Besides providing a scholarship, Shamari wants to provide resources, build one-on-one relationships with recipients, and overall provide support while they work towards their academic goals.
Website is currently in the process of being built. For more information please contact the Founder/President via email at shamarib8@gmail.com.

*The organization currently hold states (Arkansas) approval, and is seeking a third board member before applying for federal.*
