Are you a crafter or quilter? Like to sew? The Sugar Museum is looking for persons to sew beanbags for our Education Program. This beloved program, created in 1990, teaches Maui's students about sugar history and plantation life. Along with other activities, students learn how children on the plantation made their own toys and games from found items, then receives a beanbag to take home, with instructions on how to make their own.

This is a virtual opportunity that can be done anytime in the comfort of your own home. We provide you with the template and instructions. What a great opportunity to gather with friends and have a beanbag sewing party!

The empty beanbags you sew will be filled on demand at the museum on program days. Thank you.

About Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum

Location:

3957 Hansen Road, P.O. Box 125, Puunene, HI 96784, US

Mission Statement

The Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum is a 501 c3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and presenting the history and heritage of the sugar industry and the multi-ethnic cultural heritage which it engendered.

Description

The story of sugar on Maui is told at the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum. We are the main source for information on Maui's sugar history, and its multiethnic cultural heritage. We are located across from the historic 1902 Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company mill (now closed) in what was once the thriving plantation town of Pu'unene. The museum is housed in one of the few historic buildings remaining from that era and contains exhibits about one of the most significant and influential periods in the Islands’ history. It presents information about the sugar industry, depicts sugar’s influence on the development of Maui’s water resources, and describes plantation community life and the immigrants who came here from all over the world to work in the fields and mills. Outdoor exhibits feature large harvesting and mill equipment.
