The 16 Strong Project ( www.16strongproject.com) is seeking a grant writer who is passionate about and eager to contribute to the fight against the youth mental health crisis. This is a remote, volunteer position with a potential to grow into paid work in the future..

16 Strong is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that focuses on providing resources and support for young people impacted by adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Educating young people about ACEs helps to address the root causes of a high percentage of mental health challenges and substance use issues. By taking a proactive approach to mental health and wellbeing, we can address the youth mental health crisis and subsequently lower the rates of depression, anxiety, substance misuse, self-harm, and suicidality in young people.

Responsibilities

  • Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for potential grants
  • Prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources
  • Work closely with organization leadership to identify appropriate funding sources and complete all grant requirements in a timely manner
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested
  • Create timely and accurate progress reports of grant-funded projects

Qualifications

  • Clear, concise, and compelling writing skills
  • A good storyteller
  • Knowledge in research and grant writing; nonprofit experience a plus
  • Knowledge of funding databases and fundraising sources a plus
  • Familiarity with proposal writing, or equivalent
  • Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and exceptionally organized
  • Passionate about the 16 Strong mission
  • Good sense of humor!

Time Commitment and Compensation

This is a remote, unpaid/volunteer position. Hours are flexible and can be adapted to the candidate’s availability and/or class schedule, though we require a minimum commitment of 2-3 hours per week.
